"To whom much is given, much is required," is a mantra often shared and repeated by Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities co-founder, Emmitt Smith. The weekend of May 12- May 13, this mantra becomes action as the Emmitt Smith Celebrity Golf Invitational, presented by title sponsor Healthcare Highways, marks its 8th year of grand-scale fundraising to directly impact the lives of thousands of North Texas children, families and their communities. The event will be emceed by the youth who make up TEAM 22, the flagship Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities program that provides hands-on, one-to-one mentoring, unique enrichment experiences, leadership development and college scholarships.
Now in its 8th year, the Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational has raised more than $6.2 million in support of Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities has supported over 137 charities in North Texas, including 3,500 DISD students and families through their annual back to school program.
“I am honored to lead the 2017 Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational with my wife, Carmaleta Felton, said, co-chair Otis Felton. “We will always stand for the children in our community and for eight years, Pat and Emmitt have addressed the needs of more than 100,000 North Texas children.”
The weekend will kick off with a celebrity red carpet sponsored by Cigna with 800 plus guests attending the Friday Night Gala at the Omni Hotel Dallas sponsored by Albertsons/Tom Thumb led by 2017 Event Chairs Carmaleta & Otis Felton and 2017 Honorary Chair, Faye C. Briggs. The gala will welcome a host of celebrities from the sports and entertainment world, as well as local business leaders and officials.

"They look forward to it, not just for the celebrities and the glamor, they look forward to it because they know this one night of celebration can and will raise funds to support initiatives that truly help our local children."
Highlights of the evening include a live auction, dinner and live entertainment by Emerald City and presentation of the prestigious Roger Staubach Award. This award is named for the legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback and real estate icon, and recognizes sports and or entertainment professionals who positively impact the lives of children by living courageously and creating opportunities for today’s youth. This is the only award to be named in Staubach’s honor other than the one established at his alma mater, the U.S. Naval Academy. Former recipients include Steve and Marjorie Harvey, Magic and Cookie Johnson and 2016 honorees Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw.

The Friday Night Party ushers in the Celebrity Invitational golf tournament on Saturday, May 13 hosted at TPC Craig Ranch. Players will be paired with celebrities to create foursomes to vie for bragging rights and the $5,000 purse sponsored by Waste Management, and the hope of beating 2016 winning foursome made up of John Randle, Craig McCoy, Craig Hill and Kevin Boyd.
